Anyone who uses iPhone may be very familiar with iPhone backup files, and thanks to iPhone backuo files, or we’ll lose our mind once we accidently deleted important data from iPhone or lost iPhone. The backup files give us a chance to recover our personal information.

iPhone Backup File

iTunes can back up most data on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. And these data that are located in a specific place of your computer are called iPhone backup files which could be used to restore data in your iPhone if you accidently deleted something in iPhone, buy a new iPhone, etc…

Backed-up information includes purchased music, TV shows, apps, and books; photos and video in the Camera Roll; device settings (for example, Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts); app data; Home screen and app organization; Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS), ringtones, and more. Media files synced from your computer aren’t backed up, but can be restored by syncing with iTunes.

Then maybe you are wondering where those backup files are. Whether you use Mac OS X or Windows, the iPhone backup process is basically the same, iTunes backs up all your iPhone files and identifier information to a specific directory in the locations that we are about to talk. OK let’s start to find the iPhone backup files.

iPhone Backup File Location

In Mac OS X your iPhone files are backed up at the following location:

~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/

The (~) symbol signifies your home directory, which is the same place all your other documents and information are stored.

Windows XP stores all of your iPhone backup files in this location:

C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

Windows Vista and Windows 7 backs up the iPhone files to here:

C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

Obviously if your main drive is not C: then you’ll have to change that, same goes for “user”.
